Malik Rasheed Ahmad (F.K.A. Ian Christopher Smith) was born February 27, 1972 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, TX. Always the loving son, brother, husband and father, Malik completed his earthly journey and transitioned unto his eternal heavenly home on August 11, 2021.
Being both born and raised in Beaumont, TX, he was a product of the Beaumont Independent School District where he was a celebrated student-athlete until graduating from Central Sr High School in 1990. Thereafter, he followed his academic aspirations and chose to attend Prairie View A&M University to study Accounting, and play football as part of the PVAMU Panthers Football Team. His academic endeavors were realized when he earned a BBA in Accounting in 1995, and a MA in Counseling in 2001.
After graduating from PVAMU, he soon accepted an opportunity to teach High School Mathematics in the state of Indiana. However, due to his love for uplifting and serving others, he made his way back to Texas to work as a Vocational & Rehabilitative Counselor for the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services. In as much, Malik’s loving heart and GOD-given ability to empathize, engage and empower his clients was soon realized by his executive staff, and was eventually promoted to the position of VRC Supervisor at Texas Workforce Solutions. It was during this time period that Malik also fulfilled his life-long dream of pledging, and becoming a brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in 1996 as part of Theta Chi Chapter’s Tenacious Ten line. He was a dedicated Freemason as well.
Those who were blessed to spend any amount of time in his presence, immediately knew that Malik was a devoted husband, exemplary father, and totally selfless brother & friend. He immensely enjoyed spending time with his family, and always found a great joy in helping others when he could. More than anything else, he cherished each and every moment he spent with his darling “Baby-Girl” Ava. Of all things which will be missed, what will be missed most is his genuinely infectious smile, and booming laugh. Though Malik has gone on to a higher calling, his seeds of love, service, and sacrifice will forever blossom and grow within us all.
To cherish his loving memory, Malik leaves his loving wife, Fredricka “Freddie” Ahmad; adoring daughter Ava Ahmad; mother Christine Smith; Mother-in-Love Diana Mitchell (Baytown); father Phillip Samuel (Shreveport, LA); grandmother Mamie Smith Leblanc (Beaumont, TX); four sisters Kelli Smith (Tonya, Tomball TX); Phylesha Lee-Jenkins (Ronald, Rosenberg, TX); Phyllis Dearmon (Mark, Buna, TX); Brittany Samuels (Beaumont, TX); four nieces, two nephews and a host of family, extended family & friends
