My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Ahmad, Ava and all of Malik's beloved family. I have had the honor of working with Malik at DARS/TWC for many years. I'd like to share this story that I have shared with a few people over the last week.
On probably the worst day of my life (March 28, 2007), I buried my grandpa. Who would have known that 2 friends/coworkers from my unit would be tragically taken from us in a fire that afternoon. The following week Malik was assigned to cover one of the caseloads.
Having been in Texas City for the first 3 years of my TRC/DARS days I didn’t know many “Houston” people. Well, Malik came in and was a blessing to us during a very difficult time. He worked in our East End office several times a week for quite a while. Malik would come in and say his hellos and always ask how I was doing. There were days where I did everything I could to just get through that hour and just needed a hug, and then there were days that he came in and let us know he was there to do anything and everything to help.
Even then, having only been with the agency less than 2 yrs, he was a huge blessing to us and put us first.
I pray he knew how much he meant to so many. He was the blessing we needed and still in times like the pandemic, he put his staff and customers first.
