Mr. Don Allen Cunningham's Obituary
Don Cunningham, a beloved father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on November 6, 1954, in Houston, Texas. Don was the youngest child born to his parents, Ollie and Eutelia Cunningham (Peavy).
Don graduated from Evan E. Worthing Senior High School in Houston in 1973. He pursued higher education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he played as a pitcher for the Southern University Jaguars from 1973 to 1977. Don's love for baseball continued as he served as the assistant coach for the Jaguars in 1978. Don graduated from Southern University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design.
Upon returning to Houston, Texas from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Don began his career as an Interior Designer at Montgomery Ward. His creative skills and eye for design made him a valued team member. Later, Don transitioned from interior design to the petrochemical industry, working as a Chemical Operator at Lubrizol Corporation in Bayport, Texas. He dedicated over 20 years to this role, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to excellence in all his endeavors.
On September 6, 1986, Don and Angela Cunningham (Hill) welcomed their beloved daughter, Gabrielle Ciara Cunningham, into the world. Don was a devoted father, and his love for his daughter was evident in everything he did.
A lifelong fan of baseball, Don found immense joy in the sport. His love for the Houston Astros was unwavering, and he rarely missed a game. In addition to watching his favorite team, Don continued to play baseball in community leagues over the next 25 years.
Beyond his love for baseball, Don enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought him closer to nature and provided relaxation. He was an avid golfer, loved hunting and fishing, and cherished the tranquility and challenge these activities provided. These hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors.
Don is survived by his daughter, Gabrielle Cunningham; his grandchildren, Mariah Bell and Kingsley Bell; his siblings, Bonita (Glen) Smith, Ollie (Richard) Smith, and Michael (Gail) Cunningham. He also leaves behind a host of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Don is preceded in death by his father, Ollie Cunningham, and his mother, Eutelia Cunningham (Peavy).
Don was known for his exceptional kindness and empathy. His sense of humor and ability to bring a smile to others' faces will always be remembered. He was a man who lived his life with honor, and his legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew him.
