Don Cunningham was my first friend in Houston and we remained the best of friends for the next 54 years. We were high school baseball teammates at Worthing High School and we both were fortunate enough to get baseball scholarships to attend Southern University where we were roommates and teammates for another four years. When I was too shy to talk to girls he would break the ice for me. He had the patience of Job to put up with my mood swings and he was more than willing to extend a favor. Our senior year at Southern Don was the star pitcher of the Southern Jaguars baseball team. He was ranked among the nation's best. So it was more than appropriate that he passed away while watching the Major League Baseball all-star game with his daughter Gabby. Stars hanging out with stars.
