My deepest and sincere condolences to the Straughter family. I worked at Hyatt, and Steve worked an extra job there for many years. He was always the nicest guy, kind, and of course that great smile. Rest well, God Bless 🙏🏻

I worked with Steve for many years in Homicide Division. Always a joy to talk to him. The world is a sadder place without him here.
I remember Steve as a young child, he was a friend and co worker to my dad officer Austin Coleman. Sending prayers and condolences to his family.

My heart is heavy. I met a wonderful man who became a great partner. We manage a lot of cases together. But, most importantly, I gained a true friend. Steve has supported me through the death of my parents, raising my son, and managing difficult cases.
Lexi, your dad was the best! I will truly miss him.
Love always,
Darcus and Quintin.
I met Steve after I arrived to the Homicide Division, soon thereafter we became good friends, talking to one another about our cases, helping each other on our cases, joking, laughing, having lunch together up on the 11th floor there at 1200 Travis and even working together at our extra job over at the Hyatt.
Lexi, while I never got to meet you in person, your Dad always spoke of you during our conversations about our respective families during lunch. Your Dad was a wonderful man, great Investigator/Detective and a great friend, on behalf of my wife and entire family, we extend to you and your family our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your Dad.
Sincerely, Ray & Liz Cervantes
To Lexi & the Straughter’s family & friends, with Heartfelt Sympathy and offering a prayer, that God above will comfort you during this difficult time. Steve will be truly miss. He was such great friend to us, he made himself available anytime we needed him. Willing to help in any way he could. We’ve known Steve for over 35 years he was like a family member. We loss a good man. Rest in Heaven our brother. Love, Alton & Yvonne Calvit 🙏🏼
I was Steve's lieutenant when he worked night shift at Westside 30 or so years ago. I remember him well even after all of the years. He was a pleasure to work with. He was a hard worker, kind, pleasant with a captivating smile. Officers like Steve were an asset to the Houston Police department and the community they served and protected. Rest In Peace brother and may the Lord accept you with open arms.
