Mr. Steven Kimble Jr.'s Obituary
"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:16
Steven was born on August 6, 1943, to the union of Steve and Alma Pullen Kimble in Chopin, Louisiana. He was number three of ten children and was baptized at Saint Margaret’s Catholic Church in Boyce, Louisiana.
Steven attended Alfred Wettermark High School in Boyce, Louisiana (Rapides Parish) and graduated in 1962. After graduation, Steven considered a career in Industrial Arts because he was talented in mechanics, machine work, and woodwork. His mentor Merrill Lewis Gonzaque encouraged him to pursue a career in accounting instead. He graduated from Grambling State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and was a member of the Newman Club. He was the first in his family to obtain a college degree, a milestone that marked a turning point not just for him, but for his entire family.
Steven was introduced to love of his life Josephine Clark by his father who thought they would make a great match. They got engaged before Steven left to serve in Vietnam. Separated by distance, they remained connected through heartfelt letters that bridged the miles between them. Each letter was a lifeline, filled with hope, love, and dreams of a future together. The day finally came when he returned home. They married in Alexandria, Louisiana in 1969 and they parented one beautiful daughter, Stephanie.
One of Steven’s first jobs was at The Gonzaque Funeral Home in Alexandria, Louisiana. He assisted the owner, Merrill Lewis Gonzaque, in his thriving business. He did some work as an auditor in Chicago after graduating and lived with his Aunt Magdalene and his late Uncle Charles. Directly afterward, he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 as an accounting clerk. He moved to Houston and began his accounting career with Reed Tool Company, also worked in the oil and gas industry, ABB Vecto Gray and retired from the City of Houston.
Steven served as a Eucharistic Lay Minister at St. Peter’s Apostle Catholic Church and volunteered as an accounting clerk. Steven and Josephine were devoted members of St. Peter’s for over 40 years.
Steven managed his numerous health challenges with the help of his family and succumbed to the call of His maker on September 29, 2024, at his home. He loved his immediate family and loved to brag about his talented and gifted grandsons, daughter, and son-in-law. He didn’t miss a beat when it came to their special events.
He was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Alma Pullen Kimble, his brothers Bernard, Ralph, and John Delbert Kimble, and his sister Sarah Ann Pugh. Leaving to mourn his departure: his wife Josephine Clark Kimble, his daughter Stephanie Kimble Swain (Michael), grandsons Chase and Caeden Swain, and his sister, Vivian Kimble Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana. Brothers: Odis Lewis (Jessie), Charles Kimble (Marylyn), Ronald “Ronnie” Kimble (Linda), Roland Kimble (Ruth), Noland Kimble (Melissa) all of Houston, Texas, and a host of relatives and friends.
