Mr. Rudy Carlyle Hodge 's Obituary
Our beloved Rudy was born in Willemstad, Curacao, located in the Netherlands Antilles, to Fedrona Malvina and Edwin Arnold Russell Hodge. His family first immigrated to St. Kitts, and shortly thereafter, to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Surrounded by his family, Rudy first attended Wayne Aspinall Middle School then attended Charlotte Amalie High School, where he obtained his high school diploma.
Rudy was always willing to share his trademark smile with those he treasured. Always the intrepid explorer, at 19, Rudy left to pursue his college education in the United States with his former wife, Oretta. There Rudy first enrolled at the University of Houston to pursue his undergraduate studies in Architecture, and later found a passion for Art and decided to pursue Art, as a minor in his undergraduate studies. Rudy later transferred to Texas Southern University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. During this time, Rudy and Oretta welcomed their bouncing baby son, Samoreh. As their son reached maturity, Rudy was a constant force and a devoted, loving father, guiding and cultivating Samoreh into adulthood. Samoreh was a source of great pride and joy to Rudy, who always loved sharing Samoreh's latest achievements.
Rudy has always held a keen and inquisitive mind, as well as a great sense of humor. These characteristics resulted in Rudy having a rewarding and respected career as a professionally-licensed (P.E.) Civil Engineer for the City of Houston, where he made his home for the past 40 years. A diligent and hardworking professional, Rudy successfully worked where he was surrounded and appreciated by his professional colleagues.
Rudy's body was his temple and he was an avid physical fitness aficionado. He was always active -- be it riding his bike, exercising in the gym or actively playing cricket with his treasured teammates. He loved his Houston Rockets! Rudy also possessed an intrepid heart and spirit. Always the adventurer, Rudy's most recent adrenaline surge involved skydiving, of which he seemed to really enjoy.
Rudy loved his family and that love was always reciprocated. He was famous for providing his brothers and sisters with nick names such as Earl the Pearl, Peg Leg, Buddy Boy, Buddy Girl, Big Bro, etc. He would always make time to reach out to his nieces and nephews to check in and provide them with much needed wisdom which he had plenty of. Rudy also loved his two dogs, Prince and Princess.
Rudy was a deeply personal and spiritual man. He actively quoted Biblical scripture and participated regularly in Bible study sessions with his loving sisters. Even at the end, Rudy held strongly to his faith, knowing that God was waiting to receive him with open arms.
Rudy is survived by his beloved son, Samoreh Hodge, his two loving brothers -- Lloyd Norford and Kirvin Hodge, his four loving sisters -- Carvel Norford, Rhonda Hodge, Peggy Farrell, and Sandra Claxton, many loving nieces and nephews, and his many loved friends to include Andrea “Dre” Brathwaite Thew, Ann Charles, Jamal Edoo aka Small Axe, Ken Tillis, Lisa Carpenter, Valentine “Tino” Grant, Marcel “Jehudi” Claxton, Kelvin Carey, Kevin Jackson and respected coworkers. Rudy is gone from the physical world but will forever be in our hearts. We love you “Buddy Boy.” Until we meet again, God speed!
