M Long
My dearest Granny, you will always hold the most special place in my heart. There was nothing that you wouldn’t do to fill my heart with love, put a smile on my face or comfort me when I needed it the most. While most kids had “play dates” I had “Granny dates’, those were some of the best days of my life, whether it was going to The Houston Farmers Market, making pecan pralines or popcorn balls for the OLSOS Bazaar, cooking up a storm in the kitchen (everything from your famous gumbo, gar balls, soft-shell crabs, smothered okra, german chocolate cake, fig preservers and so much more), driving down to get the best bargains at Tuesday Morning or Damage Freight, watching and discussing our favorites like Joel Osteen or Miles Monroe or anything else that our hearts desired, you and I were tied to the hip.
You were more than a kindred spirit, you were my twin, you understood everything about me and I understood everything about you, no judgement just unconditional love. You taught me so much about love, kindness, goodness and thanking God everyday for all of our blessings. And in your fourth quarter in life, I became your fiercest advocate and protector, wanting only the best of the best for you in every moment of your life.
When I was a little girl, I hugged you and promised that I would never let you leave this earth, to which you always replied back to me “God knows when it's my time.” You graced this earth with your magnanimous spirit for 94 yrs, you shared your heart, your love, your mind and your goodness with everyone. And one day, we will be together again in heaven tied to the hip, eating our favorite food and carrying on like we always did.
With all my heart and all my love,
Meggie
