Nettie Fern Holloway Stonum

Nettie Fern Holloway was born February 27, 1924, to the late George Emanuel and Carrie Wilson Holloway, in Dime Box, Texas. Nettie graduated from Freeman High School in Caldwell, Texas. Immediately after graduation she was joined in matrimony to Milton Leo Stonum Sr. on July 4, 1942. The couple settled in Houston, Texas and became the proud parents of six children, Brenda Joyce, Gloria Faye, Milton Leo Jr., Darryl Cornell, Darlene Denice and Keith Bernard.
Nettie followed her dream and went back to school and became a licensed vocational nurse where she cared for patients at Memorial Hospital for 35 years before she retired. Nettie was a faithful member of United Covenant of Hope Church of God until her death where she was very active in the church. Nettie led the kitchen ministry and the church communion ministry. She also was a member of Eleventh Street Church of God, and then went to Liberty Road Church of God in Houston, Texas. Nettie spent most of her pastimes Nursing Homes, as well as visiting those who were ill or homebound. She also spent lots of her time helping raise her grandchildren and instilling in them at an early age about right from wrong. She loved to go see her grandchildren and great grandchild playing their sports. She always looked forward to the 4th of July where all of her family and friends came to eat BBQ and homemade ice cream and see everyone having a good time.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Carrie Holloway; husband Milton L. Stonum Sr.; sons, Milton L. Stonum Jr. and Keith B. Stonum Sr.; brothers, Jewel, Graydon, Bertrand, Weldon Holloway; sisters, Blanche Holloway Douglass, Juanita Holloway Sampson, Hiawatha Holloway Wooten; Hyacinth (a twin who expired shortly after birth); Carrie and Clara Holloway, twins also expired shortly after birth.
Nettie leaves three daughters, Brenda J. Childs of Houston, Texas, Gloria F. Combs of Houston, Texas; and Darlene D. Robinson of Houston, Texas. One son Darryl C. Stonum Sr.; one sister-in-law Viola Forrow Holloway of Houston, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and many other extended family members and friends.
