Mrs. Kendra R. Murphy Scott's Obituary
Kendra’s Life and Legacy
After a very courageous battle with an aggressive cancer, Kendra Raichell Murphy Scott of Houston, Texas made her heavenly transition on August 12, 2023, at the age of 34. She was born August 10, 1989, in Houston, Texas, to Ketina Willis and Keith Murphy. She was the oldest of her three siblings.
Kendra is survived by her husband, Brandon Scott of Houston Texas; their three children, Blayr (13), Kyle (8), and Braeya (6); her mother, Ketina Willis; her father, Keith Murphy (Sheryl); her two brothers Emmanuel Rasberry (Amie) and Malcolm Williams; her father and mother-in-law, Barney and Sharron Scott; her grandmother, Deborah Young; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, a niece, cousins and close friends.
Kendra was a 2007 graduate of Waltrip High School, in Houston, TX. She went on to complete both her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (2010) and Masters in Clinical Mental Health (2012) degrees at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas; and the completion of her licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in 2019. Kendra had a passion for serving and helping others. She spent her young adult life in service to her community. She served as a CPS Case Worker; Human Resource Manager and a Tri-County Services Recruiter; an Adoption Case Manager for DePelchin Children’s Center; In-patient/Out-patient manager at Houston Behavioral Hospital; and finally, her own private practice, Beautifully Unraveled, PLLC. Kendra enjoyed working with women of color who were transitioning into adulthood; struggling with their mother-daughter relationships, as well as people who had unhealthy relationships with their money. She believed in helping others improve the impact of trauma on their daily living. Kendra believed in therapy along with prayer.
Kendra completely enjoyed being a wife, mother, big sister, niece and cousin! She was Brandon’s biggest cheerleader and always supported him in his endeavors. She was an amazing mother! She was patient, calm and considered herself the “manager of meltdowns.” Kendra loved being a big sister and owned her role by providing guidance and advice regularly. She was an excellent “Ba” (aunt) to her two nephews, Ace and Elias and niece, Arie. Her cousin gatherings were her socializing highlight! She couldn’t wait to hang with them and exchange stories, advice, and love on each other. Kendra enjoyed vacationing with her family, eating out, hanging out with extended family, arts and crafts, hosting holiday events, and encouraging others. She always challenged herself to grow spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally. She was raised at Living Word Fellowship Church under the leadership of Dr. Paul Cannings of Houston, TX. Kendra later joined The Five Nineteen Church of Beaumont, TX under the leadership of Rev. Tyron and Shamine Cormier, Jr. Her final church family was Houston’s First Baptist Church, Downtown Campus, Houston, TX under the leadership of Pastor Leon Brooks, III.
Kendra's life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service on Friday, August 25, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Downtown, 1730 Jefferson St., 77003.
