Mrs. Kathryn L. Lockett's Obituary
Kathryn Louise (Brown) Lockett, 74, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024. In her last days, she was surrounded in love by her family. She was born on December 31, 1949 in Navasota, TX to Preston Caroll and Willie Mae Bassett. She is a 1967 graduate of Jack Yates High School in Houston, TX; and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Prairie View A&M University in 1971.
Kathryn married Ronald in 1972 and they moved to Indianapolis, IN to continue her education in the Master of Science in Nursing program at Indiana University. After working over a decade as a registered nurse, Kathryn opted to devote her full attention to the care of her family and her civic commitments. She was a long-standing member of Light of the World Christian Church (Indianapolis), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nurses, the Indianapolis Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc., and a volunteer with Heritage Place of Indianapolis and the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township.
Her legacy will be kept alive by her husband of 51 years, Ronald; her two sons Ronald II (Sparkle) and Darryl (Amanda); and grandchildren Alyssa, Ariel, Landon, Olivia, Reese and Davion. She will be lovingly remembered by an aunt, an uncle, many brothers and sisters-in law, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Interment will be held at the Houston National Cemetery. A Memorial Service in Indianapolis will be held at a later date. Donations in Kathryn’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society in support of their VOICES of Black Women Initiative.
