Joseph Alton Broussard was born on April 21, 1941 in Houston, Texas and was the 4 born child to Eugene Broussard and Rose Broussard Arceneaux. He was baptized at St. Nicholas Catholic Church where he was an altar boy for 10 years. Joe also went to live with his Aunt and uncle Anthony and Savanna Mouton where he learned to work on car engines and transmissions in Moutons garage at 13 years old. At 19 Joe started his life as a United States Marine where he proudly served 4 years in the Motor Pool. Joe, or Alton for those of you that have known him since childhood, eventually settled down in Houston Texas among family and was a successful steelworker at Armco Steel for 17 years. Armco shut down in Houston in 1984 and Joe changed careers to Metro where he worked for 17 years. Joe was a mechanic for 4 years before being promoted to Shop Foreman before retiring to spend more time with his family. Joe has 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who he graciously gave his love, attention and time. He also raised his grandson Brent as his own who affectionately called him pop after losing beloved daughter Mary. Family meant everything to Joe which was shown in his everyday life as he spent many hours caring and taking care of others.
In his spare time Joe could always be found working on a project for family, on a boat with his son fishing, hanging with the Gafftoppers who were more of an extended family or an occasional visit to the dog or horse track. He shared his knowledge of cars or house projects for anyone that wanted to tag along to lend a hand. Joe also enjoyed spending time many friends and family where no one was a stranger.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Rose Broussard, his first wife Jaquelyn, siblings Anthony, Raymond, George and John (Austin) Broussard and his beloved daughter Mary Broussard. He leaves to cherish in memory his wife Earnestine Bell, siblings Mary Margaret, Rosalie, his children Jack, Joseph, Lilly, Brent, a special person in his life Rose Bowser, many dear friends, friends who became family and a large and loving family
