Mr. John Savoie's Obituary
I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7.
John Savoie, devoted husband, loving father, and supportive brother received his heavenly reward on December 10, 2024. He was born on September 11, 1959 in Houston, Texas and raised by devoted parents Audrey Mae Savoie Clark and Clifford Savoie. John was the eldest of three siblings with one brother, Bernard, and baby sister Tara. He was known to be a caring and generous man, always willing to share his knowledge and help others. He also had an infectious personality, warm smile, and a unique gift of making everyone feel special.
From a young age he held a passion for basketball and he was given the opportunity to play when he attended Milby High School. With the support of his mentor Coach Boyce Honea, and through hard work and dedication, he earned a scholarship to play at Sam Houston State University. After an outstanding sports career, he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree. John worked for Lyondell Bassell Petrochemical Co. before retiring after 30 years of service. During that time, he developed a love for golfing that sometimes kept him on the golf course from sun-up to sundown. Alone, with friends, sometimes even with the kids tagging along, there was no keeping him away.
He was united in holy matrimony to Maureen Portier on October 7, 1989 and they were blessed with 35 years together. Through life’s ups and downs, their love withstood the test of time. From this union two beautiful children were born Alyssa Nicole and Aaron Joseph. They enjoyed traveling to many fun-filled destinations together and created many family traditions and memories.
Later in life John learned he was adopted, and after many years of searching, he was overjoyed at the opportunity to connect with his birth parents. He was grateful to be warmly received as a son of Paul Rachal (lovingly called “Pops”) and Mary Chenevert (lovingly called “Mama Jean”), truly a gift from God. From the Rachal family he was blessed with two brothers, Michael and Shane, and two sisters, Constance and Jennifer. From the Chenevert family he was blessed with two brothers, Tyrone and Jay, and two sisters, Melody and Belinda. Although their time together was too short, John treasured every moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents Audrey Clark, Clifford Savoie, and Paul Rachal; and his younger brother Jay Chenevert. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Maureen Savoie, daughter Alyssa Savoie, son Aaron Savoie, and daughter-in-law Courtney Savoie, all of Houston, TX. They will remember him as he was: a loving Son, Husband, Brother, Uncle, and friend.
He is remembered and survived by his birth mother Mary Chenevert; Beverly Rachal; his four brothers, Clifford Bernard Savoie (Houston, TX), Michael Rachal and his wife Marisha (Lovettsville, VA), Shane Jordan and his wife Johanna (Windermere, FL), and Tyrone Chenevert and his wife Angela (Dayton, TX); and his five sisters, Tara Savoie Green and husband Ernest (Pearland, TX), Constance Rachal (Humble, TX), Jennifer Rachal (Rosharon, TX), Melody Chenevert (Pearland, TX), and Belinda Chenevert Miller and husband Henry (Baytown, TX). He leaves behind with fond remembrance his father-in-law Melvin Portier (Beaumont, TX); his three sister-in-laws Cheryl Portier (Beaumont, TX), Marilyn Portier (Baytown, TX), and Carol Guillory (Baytown, TX); and a host of nieces and nephews.
