Mrs. Joan Hill Colbert's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Mrs. Joan Hill Colbert
December 17, 1941 – October 13, 2025
Mrs. Joan Hill Colbert, a devoted mother, professional, and woman of remarkable perseverance, departed this life peacefully on October 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
A native Houstonian and proud 1959 graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School, Joan always valued education and service. After becoming a paraplegic following a major car accident in the early 1970s, she demonstrated extraordinary resolve by continuing her studies, earning her degree from the College of Pharmacy at Texas Southern University in 1976. Her journey stands as a testament to the power of faith, courage, and education in overcoming life’s greatest challenges.
Mrs. Colbert devoted her career to improving the lives of others through her pharmacological work at the Southeast Texas Poison Center in Galveston, Texas; where her professionalism, compassion, and expertise touched countless lives.
Joan was a phenomenal woman known for her wisdom, wit, and nurturing spirit. Her excellent, sophisticated communication skills always brought warmth, laughter, and memorable interactions.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three beloved sons—Harold Trent Colbert, Christian Todd Colbert, and Whitman Rubbin Colbert—along with seven treasured grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and dedicated friends who will carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter (Harolynne Colbert Washington).
Though she has departed this earthly life, Mrs. Joan Hill Colbert’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she inspired.
