Ms. Helen M. Elbert's Obituary
Helen M. Elbert of Houston, Texas, peacefully passed away at age 94 on August 18, 2023. She was born in Upshur County, Tx. on April 12, 1929 to H.O. Hargest and Ludella Johnson. She was the youngest of six children.
Helen received her B.A. from Texas College in Tyler, Tx., an Historically Black College founded in 1894, by a group of CME ministers.
She continued her education by earning her Master of Education degree from Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls Texas.
While at Texas College, Helen pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Gamma Epsilon Chapter, in 1947. She was a Life Member and dedicated Delta DEARS.
Helen began her professional career as an elementary school teacher in Levelland Texas. Later teaching at Central Ward School in Haskell, Texas, Booker T. Washington School in Burkburnett, Texas and retiring from Hayes Elementary in Odessa Tx.
Helen is survived by her two children: son, Weldon Elbert Jr. (MarylouiseYoung ) and daughter, Rhonda Elbert Tripeaux (Dennis).
Other survivors include grandson, Winston Elbert; granddaughters, Welth Elbert Cooper (Lee) and Akira Tripeaux McKenzie (Lenny); and great-grandson Lennox McKenzie; grandson, Braylon Gage and great- granddaughter, Braylie Gage. Also, a niece, Marylin Hargest-Jackson and nephew, Bobby Ray Hargest.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heavenly Manor Assisted Living and Marsh Personal Care Home who cared for her with kindness and dedication.
