Mr. George Russell's Obituary
George Russell Sr., lovingly known as “Shine,” and by his children as “Poppa Stoppa,” was born on April 4, 1958, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Hattie Mae and Lester Love Sr.
He received his education at Slidell High School, where he shined as a gifted athlete in multiple sports, earning recognition as an All-District and All-State basketball player. His passion for the game and his talent on the court led him to continue both his education and basketball career at Pearl River College.
Driven by ambition, determination, and a natural charisma, George quickly made his mark in the automobile sales industry. His vibrant personality, combined with his deep knowledge and ability to connect with people, propelled him into upper management in a short time.
Fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to create something of his own, George went on to become the proud owner and founder of First Impressions Custom Clothing. Known for his signature saying, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression,” George built a business that reflected not only his impeccable style but also his belief in the power of presentation, confidence, and hard work.
In 1984, George met the love of his life, his “Honey,” Angela Harrison. The two were united in marriage on November 8, 1986, and together they built nearly four decades of fun, true love, and laughter. To this union, three sons were raised into strong and honorable men: Kendrick “Hero” Payton-Russell, George Russell II, and Alexander Chase Russell. He was also blessed with a loving daughter-in-law, Alexis Russell, and found great joy in his grandchildren, Skylar Payton-Russell and George Russell III.
George was a devoted member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church. His faith remained the foundation of his life and guided the way he loved and cared for others.
On September 28, 2025, George peacefully transitioned from this life into the arms of the Lord. George will forever be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his impact on others, his passion for fitness and health, and of course, his sharp sense of style. He had a way of lighting up any room he walked into - because one thing about George, he never met a stranger.
To cherish his memory, he leaves behind his devoted wife, Angela Russell; sons Kendrick Payton-Russell, George Russell II, and Alexander Russell; his daughter-in-law, Alexis Russell; his grandchildren, Skylar Payton-Russell and George Russell III; his brothers Chris Russell, Bill Russell, and Ernest Russell; along with a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and the countless lives he touched through his family, church, business, and community.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Hattie Mae; father, Lester Love Sr.; brother, Joseph “Flap” Russell; and niece, Voncia Renee Shepherd.
Though George is no longer with us in body, his legacy of love, laughter, faith, and service will live on through all who were blessed to know him. His life was a true testament to the power of family, faith, and first impressions - and his memory will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever.
