Mrs. Evelyn K. Bowman's Obituary
Evelyn Lillian Kimbrough Bowman was born September 5, 1935 to Leroy and Susie Mae Brewer Kimbrough. She was the fourth of eight children and born in Greensboro Georgia. Evelyn was a smart and loyal girl and although she was born in the country, she was a city girl at heart.
At the age of 10, she said yes to the Lord and joined Springfield Baptist Church. She attended school in Greensboro and graduated from the local high school in 1954. Soon after, she went to Atlanta, Georgia to live with an aunt and uncle where she worked in a hospital renal lab. While walking home from work she caught the eye of her future husband, Edward Floyd Bowman. A daughter, Marilyn Katrina, was born to their union.
Evelyn began attending Morris Brown College and received a bachelor's degree in Education. She later received a Masters degree in Education from Atlanta University. Evelyn began teaching in the Atlanta Public School system in 1967, where she served for 23 years and greatly enriched the lives of many sixth and seventh grade students. She retired in 1990 and lived in Atlanta until 1999 when she moved to Friendswood, Texas to live with her daughter and granddaughters.
Evelyn spent her life loving the Lord and her family. She enjoyed traditional gospel music and listening to meaningful sermons. In addition, she enjoyed gathering with family and going on summer vacations. Evelyn will remain in our memories and is preceded in death by her father, Leroy Kimbrough, her mother, Susie Mae Kimbrough, her brothers Royston and Donnell Kimbrough, her sisters Jerrydine Whitaker (Dayler), Lucy Hollis (Curtis), and Bernice Stitt (Harry), and her husband Edward Floyd Bowman.
She leaves behind her daughter, M. Katrina Christy (Reginald), granddaughters Belicia Erica Janae Bowman and Bria Elaina Joye Bowman, sisters Nell Lester (Eugene) and Betty Alexander (Roosevelt) along with several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
