Mrs. Ethelena Berry Evans' Obituary
Ethelena Berry (Washington) Evans, born March 10, 1931 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is the third daughter of Lucy and Solomon Berry.
Ethelena was baptized at the age of thirteen at Progressive Baptist Church in New Orleans by Reverend Burrell. She continued serving as an adult at Progressive under the leadership of Reverend McCallup. Later, she joined Gliding Light Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Gilbert Royal Washington. She served as an usher until 2005. In 2005, she relocated to Houston, Texas with her daughter because of Hurricane Katrina.
Ethelena graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans, LA. She furthered her education by obtaining an Associate Degree in Business. She was employed by the Louisiana Food Service Department for twenty-six years. Her last position was as a Food Service Manager in the New Orleans School System. She retired in 1991.
Ethelena was proceeded in death by her parents, Lucy and Solomon Berry; her husband, Albert Evans, Sr.; sisters Julia Berry and Dorothy Williams; nieces Brenda Anderson & Diane Williams; Nephews David & Everette Williams; great-nephews Kevin Miller, Damien Williams and Dwight Williams, Jr.
Ethelena leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter Denise Marie Washington; nieces Theresa McGee, Eloise & Pamela Williams, and Jacqueline Diggs; nephew Dwight Williams, Sr; thirteen great nieces & nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.-
