Pastor Emeritus Joe Dean Johnson
1929 – 2014
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. II Timothy 4: 7-8
Pastor Emeritus Johnson is survived by his wife, Gloria Powell Johnson: daughters and sons, Katherine Richmond, Lillie Thompson (Don), Ivory Joe Johnson (Sheree) and Minister Chester ‘Puff” Johnson: stepdaughters, Myriah Johnson and Tressline Johnson: siblings, Viola Williams (Johnny) and Deacon Forrest Johnson Sr (Pinkie); 25 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and many other dear relatives friends.
He served as pastor of the historic Riceville Mount Olive Baptist Church for 42 years.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 6th from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Service of Praise and Worship will follow beginning at 6:00 PM.
Pastor Emeritus Johnson will lie in state Monday, July 7th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Final Christian Rites will begin at 11:00 AM.
All services will be held at Riceville Mt Olive Baptist Church, 11539 S Gessner Rd., Pastor, Terry Eugene Mackey, officiating.
Interment will be Riceville Cemetery.
