James W Carey
Tribute to my Beloved Earline
I am and privileged to honor and ever remember and reflect on the life of my beloved Earline Walker Carey, my wife, the lady God gave to me. A quiet dogmatic lady whose mere presence brought light and joy to all who knew her. Earline and I enriched each other’s life when we first met at a TSU social gathering, it was on a blind date in the spring of 1976, and by June 24, 1978, we embarked on a journey of love via holy matrimony that would span two scores and seven years.
Earline embodied a unique blend of youthful exuberance and ancient wisdom, her smile radiating warmth and kindness to whom she encountered. It was a decade before our first child James Jr would be birthed. He lit up her life with an inspiring joy. Her nurturing spirit and teachings of God’s word by Bible readings and modeling added to foundation and structure in his life.
I cherished her angelic voice she lifted in worship to God with sincerity and devotion. Humming and singing around the house would be common fold. Adding my voice to hers reminds me of Yolanda and Donnie.
Earline had a passion for shopping, her love for antique treasure hunting would take us on countless adventures within a 100-mile radius of Humble. I can’t think of any department store in the greater Houston Metropolis that she didn’t frequently visited.
Her adventurous spirit also led us to explore Texas through travel, creating memories that will forever be etched in my heart.
In the summer of 1990, our family expanded with the arrival of our second child, Stephanie, bringing even more joy and love into our lives.
Earline would dress Stephanie so pretty and comb her hair so beautiful that they were the queen and princess in the house of Carey. Earline's love for her family was unwavering, her nurturing spirit aided in guiding in raising each child according to there natural bent.
Attending Bible Study, singing and leading some songs in the Choir, home Bible songs/study with James and Stephanie was our routine for spiritual growth.
As an educator she allocated an enormous amount of time making sure that James and Stephanie obtained the best preparations for High School and College. Exposing them to diverse cultural experiences, Christian SummerCamps, Educational field trips, and constantly talking to them uttering common sense tools and words of Wisdom. They have grown to be the epitome and embodiment of good Christian adulthood. She would often say how proud she was of how smart both Stephanie and James is.
In the winter of our lives we were faced with a health foe that would seemed to be overwhelming. The foundation of our Christianity was tested. God’s divine word is true the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous doth availeth much. For the past ten years that which would have destroyed most, strengthened her. For prayers across the country on a daily basis would rain down on her. From classrooms, to flag poles, from churches to business offices, from the privacy of homes to offices of dignitaries prayers have been rendered. After a courageous and faith filled battle on August 18th she commended her Spirit unto God. As I saw her take her last breath I knew the Love of God had taken her unto His fold where there would be eternal Joy and Peace. I knew that, that dreaded health foe had stumbled and fell. For Earline now had the Victory. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
For the days that followed I could still hear her angelic voice singing…
I’ve got to hold on to God’s unchanging hand for he promised me that I would prosper and have good success. Sometimes I struggle with the failures of my past, but through the blood of Jesus I know he loves me, I have another chance to hold on to his hand. For he loves me for who I am. Jesus knows and he cares for me.
Mom amour tu me manques me t’aime je te Berra I au paradis.
