I just happened to be back home in Houston and one of my daughters who also remembers Ms Countee shared with me her homegoing. Sister Countee was BOTH our Sunday School teachers. What an impact she made at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
A true friend and counselor to all students at Booker T Washington High School.
Everyone wants a teacher that makes you happy to see them. Ms. Countee was that teacher. She had the ability to make you comfortable in her class and ready to learn. She spoke with a calming, friendly, yet professional air in her tone to her students. She treated us as her children, not students. Ms. Countee taught us about life to make it outside of the classroom as well as science. I was so excited and happy to see her at Antioch Missionary Baptism Church in the late 1980’s. Each time I saw her, I felt like the student in her class at Booker T. Washington High School in 1969. I will remember her for her walk, smile and speech. An excellent teacher. You have definitely earned your rest Ms. Countee. 🙏🏼
Ms. Countee was a big part of my growing up. To this day I carry my Bible to every service I attend and a a notepad.
While doing Ms. Doris hair, I always enjoyed talking to her and listening to the gospel station. She always gave words of wisdom. I will always appreciate and value the time we spent together. I will keep Ms.Martha Ann and family in my prayers.
Mrs Countee was an amazing teacher, mentor and leader. I learned so much from her. She was a great influence in the lives of so many students. Her crown in heaven is adorned richly.
Ms Countee has a lasting effect on me. To this day, when my secret question is required, I always pick Who is your favorite teacher? The answer. Ms Countee. RIP
One of the all time great teachers. She made a huge impact on thousands of students lives. One of my fondest memories was when she announced our names at graduation. You really felt that you had achieved something.
She was a breath of fresh air, always lively and friendly. She would be in the broadcast box at the football games. I saw her at our 50th class reunion.
