Mrs. Dollie B. White's Obituary
The time has come for me to leave this life. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day. — II Timothy 4:6-8
Dollie Maxie was born January 28, 1939, the ninth child of thirteen children born to Dollie Code and Russell Maxie, Sr., in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dollie accepted Christ at an early age at Bethel Baptist Church, a church her great-great-great grandfather founded. Formative years in church under the direction of her grandparents Rev. Mack Taylor Code and Rose Presley placed a scripture in her heart that guided every aspect of her life, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” (Matthew 25:35)
Dollie graduated from Second Ward High School in Gloster, Louisiana, then moved to Houston to attend Texas Southern University. Dollie found purpose in life as a nurse. She served in all facets of nursing and was always known as a devoted caretaker to many in the community. She loved helping people and worked until the grand age of eighty. She also loved cooking for everyone and everything she made tasted wonderful. Her gumbo is legendary.
Dollie married the late Quinten H. White and together they raised three children, Donna, Al, and Dena, until his death in 1977. She later met and married Roy Lee Bonton and their union lasted 43 years. Their home was a loving place to grow in God’s grace and was filled with family and fun.
Dollie made a difference in this world and will be fondly remembered by many. Taking her heavenly wings on September 19, 2022, this energetic woman of God represented the last direct descendent of her parents, as she was the last child of this union to enter into heavenly rest. Those who proceeded her in heavenly rest are her parents Russell and Dollie Maxie; six sisters, Elizabeth, Eula, Rose, Maxine, Fannie and Thelma; and six bothers, Alfred, Lee, Taylor, Oscar, Lewis and Russell.
Her memory will be cherished by husband Roy, her three children Donna (Howard), Al (Lisa), and Dena; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Stefanie (Kesley), Howard II (IIiana), Xavier, Chassidy (Quenton); three great-grandchildren, Zaria, Paisley, and Ava, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Her life will be celebrated Saturday, October 1, 2022, 1:00 p.m. in the Rose Chapel at Mabrie Memorial Mortuary. Visitation will be prior to service starting at 12:00 p.m.
