Mr. Derren C. Hunter Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Derren Charles Hunter, Sr. was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He grew up learning the true meaning of hard work, manhood, loyalty, respect, and perseverance. Those early lessons shaped the foundation of who he would become. Life didn’t always move in a straight line, but every twist and turn taught him something valuable.
His time in the U.S. Army was a turning point—it forged him into a man of discipline, strength, and purpose. The challenges of service taught him how to stand tall, even when life tried to break him. After the military, he pursued higher education at Texas Southern University, earning his degree in engineering. Music was always in his heart and being part of the TSU marching band brought him joy, pride, and unforgettable memories.
Derren's life truly changed when he became a father. In his children, he saw the opportunity to be better, to love harder, and to lead with intention. Fatherhood softened him and strengthened him at the same time—it gave his life new direction and deeper meaning.
Now, with his loss, there is a deep hole in the heart of the family—one that words can’t fill. His absence is felt in every quiet moment, every shared memory, every room he once lit up. However, in this tragic loss of a live well lived and loved, there is also hope that love will guide those he left behind, that his legacy will draw them close, not apart and through their shared grief, they will find strength in one another—to begin healing and to close this wound together.
Derren C. Hunter, Sr. is survived by a family who loves him, co-workers and friends who admired him and a legacy of service and commitment to model.
