Mr. Charles Wendell Shaw's Obituary
Forever in our hearts, Mr. Charles Wendell Shaw will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Charles Wendell Shaw departed his earthly dwelling on September 2, 2025. He was born to the late Sandy and Lucile Shaw on May 24, 1937 in Marshall, Texas. His sister Hallett, brothers Sandy Jr. and Michael preceded him in death.
At an early age, Charles was christened at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Marshall, Texas.
Charles is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Melba Payne-Shaw, his sisters Brenda Nelson, Rose Stewart, and brother-in-law Tony Stewart of Marshall, Texas. Sharing their loss are extended family members, nieces, other relatives and devoted friends.
Charles graduated from Pemberton High School in Marshall, Texas. Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy and served four years. He continued his military career enlisting in the United States Army Medical Service School (MFSS) at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. His training in the medical field transferred him to Germany, South Carolina, Bangkok, Thailand, and Washington, D.C. as a Senior Lab Sergeant. He served his country faithfully for 29 years, retiring from the U.S. Army as Master Sergeant. Retirement could not last long for a man as active as Charles. Settling in Houston, Texas he began working at Arco Petrochemical as Senior Lab Technician and Shift Leader, retiring after 29 years.
Charles was a car enthusiast. He was a member of two car clubs- N.A.A.C.C. and H.C.A. . He participated in many car shows (for example, the Space City Car Show), parades, and exhibitions. Charles also had a "green thumb" planting flowers, vegetables, fruit and even "water gardening".
Charles was a loving husband. His kind, genuine, fun-loving spirit has left its mark on many. The Shaw family will find comfort in knowing that Charles is now in his heavenly home.
