Mrs. Carolyn C. Parker Scantlebury's Obituary

A woman of faith and determination to make a difference, Mrs. Carolyn C. Parker Scantlebury entered her Heavenly home on January 12, 2023. Her love and everlasting presence will remain a legacy.
Carolyn C. Parker-Scantlebury was a native Houstonian and a graduate of Jack Yates High School, Huston-Tillotson College (now University), Atlanta University and Yale University ~ specialty practicum in Psychiatric Social Work. Human Services and the elevation of our people was her heart and greatest passion. Her Motto was, “Find a Way or Make One”. Carolyn was the first child born to Clarence Parker & Virttie Jacks Parker in Houston, Texas at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Carolyn for many years worked as a psychiatric social worker for HISD and was a parent advocate for many students and families. She was President Emeritus of the Houston Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P., devoted member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and was a member of the Windsor Village Church Family where she faithfully served on the Administrative and New Membership boards and in other capacities at the church for over 35 years.
To cherish her memories, she leaves her beloved son, Darnley (Donnie) DeCosta Scantlebury III, and Ivorie Jenkins, her three grandchildren, Noah Matthew Scantlebury, Asa Ra Scantlebury and Ava Camille, her cousins, Rev. Anthony Ferrell, Sr., Rev. Anthony Ferrell, Jr., the Jacks families of Houston and San Francisco, CA. and many other extended family and friends.
Her home going service will be held on Sunday, January 29th @ 1:30 pm at the Kingdom Builders Center (KBC) at 6011 West Orem Dr., Houston, TX 77085.
