Mrs. Barbara Benson Peugh's Obituary
MRS. BARBARA JEAN MARGERINE BENSON PEUGH was born on Thursday – October 7, 1943 to the late Scott Benson Sr. and Elvira Lewis Benson in Needville, Texas.
Barbara joyfully accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age.
Barbara was blessed to be raised in a large family. Her parents had nine other children (one daughter and eight sons).
Barbara attended W.M. Routt Elementary school up to the eighth grade. Afterwards, she graduated from Powell Point High School in Kendleton, Texas. During her tenure in grade school, she played basketball for both her elementary and high school teams. She was also very musically inclined and loved to sing and dance.
After graduating from high school, Barbara attended Prairie View A&M University. She would later earn a business school certificate before relocating to Houston, Texas.
Barbara was united in Holy Matrimony to Adolph Peugh on Saturday – December 28, 1968. From this union came three children, Theloniaus, Jason and Ashley. Barbara was an extremely devoted wife and mother, always providing her family with love, encouragement, and whatever else they needed.
Barbara was employed by the Nabisco Company for over 25 years and served in various positions until the company closed its plant in Houston. After her retirement from Nabisco, she served as a supervising caregiver at the Candy Land Daycare Center in Pearland, Texas.
Barbara had several hobbies. She loved gardening and took great delight in working outside in her yard to ensure that it kept an appearance that was both inviting and festive. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and preparing dishes for special events. She volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and was an active participant with her children’s parent/teacher associations. She also stayed connected with issues involving her community by being active with the Shamrock Manor Neighborhood Association and communicating with local politicians. However, the role that Barbara was the most passionate about was simply being a humble servant of God. In addition to taking care of the members of her household, she also made herself available to help other family members and friends. She and her family transferred their membership and joined Brentwood Baptist Church in Houston, Texas on January 1, 1992. Barbara was an active member of the church for several years. During that time she served faithfully in the Love Ministry and with the Brentwood Community Garden Team.
Barbara leaves to cherish her precious memory her wonderful husband of 56 years, Adolph Peugh; Sons: Theloniaus D. Peugh Sr. (Gilberta) and Jason V. Peugh (Nyamekye); Grandchildren: Mikayla Peugh, Mackenzie Peugh, Gabrielle Peugh, Jason Peugh, Joshua Peugh, and Theloniaus Peugh Jr.; Siblings: Pinkie Arnic (Clois), and Glenn Benson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her dear daughter Ashley Peugh; and her brothers Melvin Benson, Scott Benson Jr., Roy Benson, William Curtis Benson, Lester Benson, Hayward Benson, and Ray Lavania Benson.
