Mr. Asa C. D. McClellan II's Obituary
Asa Caliver David McClellan II was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Dr. Asa C. D. McClellan and Ethel McClellan on September 21, 1935. He peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
Asa was blessed with a love for music, especially classical piano. He attended University of Cincinnati on a full sponsorship from The Proctor and Gamble Company. There, Asa completed his MM in Piano from the College-Conservatory of Music.
Asa went on to perform extensively throughout the United States. Later Asa became a professor at Texas Southern University (TSU) where he taught piano, organ, music theory, and music history. He retired as Head of the Piano Department at Texas Southern University.
As gifted as he was on the piano, he was equally impressive and accomplished on the organ. Asa was often the organist at various places of worship including University Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church, and Riverside Houston United Methodist Church.
He will be remembered by daughter, Nichelle McClellan Dent; son, Asa C. D. McClellan, III; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many other relatives, friends, and students.
