Dr. Alfred R. Louis' Obituary
Alfred R. Louis, MD (80), of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023. Born of Alex Louis Sr. and Celeste Louis on July 6, 1942. He held many titles, Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Father-in-Law, Papa, and Doctor. He graduated from University of Lafayette in Louisiana and went on to study medicine at Meharry Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee. It was while he was studying to become a doctor that he met his love Rosa, whom he married in 1968, the same weekend he graduated from the prestigious Meharry Medical School and began his practice in medicine serving in the Army. He was a talented Family Practitioner with the objective of providing access to quality medical care in underserved communities and he did so for over 40 years. His generous heart and endearing bedside manner made him a favorite amongst his colleagues and patients alike; he was a beloved pillar in the community and a cornerstone of strength in our family.
He was a long-standing member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, also known as “The Boule”, as a member of the NU Boule’ (Houston) Chapter and the National Medical Association. He served on many boards and worked with many of the high school sports teams to help provide physicals to the athletes in the African American community.
He is survived by his wife of over 54 years - Rosa and two children, Rene and Kenny, his daughter in law Trina and his granddaughters – Lauryn, Alexis, Taylor and Parker. He is also survived by his siblings – Merline Herbert, Esther LaFontaine (Herman) and Walter Louis, Sr. (Chris) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Celeste as well as his eldest brother Alex Louis, Jr.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church, 3006 Rosedale St., Houston, TX 77004. Viewing will be prior to service, 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Final salute and military honors will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 12:45 p.m.
