Della was born on May 5, 1942. During her formative years, she attended church regularly and participated in various school and service programs in the community. Della went on the graduate as salutatorian from Charlton-Pollard High School in Beaumont in 1959. In 1963, she obtained a B.S. in Secondary Education and Mathematics from Lamar University. Additionally, Della received a Masters Degree (1968) and Ph.D. Degree (1974) in Mathematics Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Her pursuit of mathematics was secured by the belief that mathematics is the key to opportunity, and there was a strong need for mathematics teachers to unlock this opportunity for the next generation. On June 18, 1969, Della Pearl Domoneck married Robert Alfred Bell in Beaumont, TX at the Douglass Memorial CME Church. To this union was born two children, Dr. Alfreda Bell-Coleman and Brian Keith Bell. Della worked in the field of education for 46 years. Her professional career started in Port Arthur, TX where she taught Mathematics at the Junior High/High School levels. Upon completion of her Ph.D. degree, she joined Texas Southern University (TSU), where she remained employed for 38 years. She progressed from an Assistant Professorship to a Chairperson of the Mathematics Department upon her retirement. She also was awarded with multiple Teacher of the Year and Faculty Member of the Year designations. As a professor, she always wanted to address student needs. She wanted to impress upon them her willingness to assist them and be helpful in whatever ways possible. The Bell Family joined South Post Oak Baptist Church (which later became The Fountain of Praise) during the early years in Houston and remained active members for decades. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Alfred Bell; her daughter, Alfreda Bell-Coleman; her parents; 2 brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her son Brian Keith Bell (Michelle) of Missouri City, TX; one brother, Rev. Gerald Domoneck, Sr.(Jettis) of Beaumont, TX; one sister, Xavier Hill (Cyrus) of Missouri City, TX; and five grandchildren: Eric Coleman, Jr., Devyn Coleman, Jordyn Coleman, Aliah Ashton Bell, and Aryn Elise Bell. She is also survived by a host of other family members.
