It was always good to see Mrs. Lewis at track practice, track meets, events and get togethers surrounding our UH family. She will truly be missed. Im a Jersey gurl too and will always think of Mrs. Lewis as a Jersey gurl Icon! Hugs and prayers from Saudi.

Mrs. Lewis was a wonderful and kind teacher. I was lucky to be her student. She made gym fun. Deepest sympathies to the family.
Evelyn Lewis was a most special, beautiful and loving soul - a gift to this earth and to those blessed to know her. As a student of Sri Chinmoy, who first met Carl on November 11, 1983, I was honored to be present when Carl brought his parents, Bill and Evelyn Lewis, to meet Sri Chinmoy in Queens, NY on November 14, 1983, when we sang several songs he had composed in Carl's honor. The next day Sri Chinmoy said to Carl, "When I saw your mother, immediately I felt in her an 'Indian mother's heart'. By this we mean a heart of sympathy, kindness and closeness - a heart of oneness that feels real concern and sympathy for others." We were blessed to meet with her many times in the following decades. We often sang two songs Sri Chinmoy composed for her: "Sister Evelyn, Mother Evelyn, compassion-soul! Oneness-role! God-Beauty's Concern-Light, God-Duty's Service-Height." and "Ambalika: Goddess-Mother-Height, the Mother of Majesty, the Mother of Bounty." Our hearts are with the entire Lewis family - hearts in which our loving, sweet memories of Evelyn Lewis are radiantly glowing forever.

Evelyn was everybody's mom on the Santa Monica Track Club, a steadying influence for all in our traveling track troupe. I will always hold dear her kindness and wit. Rest in Paradise.
In addition to be the wonderful mother to Carol, Carl, Mack and Cleeve, Evelyn Lewis was the matriarch for all of us on the Santa Monica Track Club. She traveled with us to Europe and was always the calming presence for us, as a mom would be.
One special memory I have of her was arriving at a track meet in Houston and our ride was delayed by several hours. I called Evelyn and even though she was in the middle of having people over to dinner and the airport was 30-40 minutes away, she came and picked us up. Just like your mom would do if you called her last minute. She will be missed but we are grateful for the time we did have with her ❤️
I am so glad that I got to meet Evelyn. She is one of the sweetest and kindest ladies. The last time I saw her was at my retirement party given by UH Track and Field in 2021. She had an amazing life but she was more interested in you than she was in sharing her story. She was always smiling. Our life paths crossed and I am forever impacted by this wonderful lady.
